Becoming a Radiant Source of Light

Editor’s Note: This is part 5 from Discover the Power Within You, A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within by Eric Butterworth. This book is for Christians and Non-Christians alike. It promotes the teachings Jesus brought to the world and says they are as relevant to us today as they were two thousand years ago. This is the last installment on this amazing book.
“We need to get this idea into our consciousness that man, made in the image and likeness of God, is no mere figure of speech. It is a practical fact, a dynamic truth” says Eric Butterworth in his book Discovering the Power Within You. But, what does this mean and why is this important? It means that each of us is an authentic part of the Divine, a cell in the body of God, a part of a larger whole but we must embrace our spiritual unity with God and we must be disciplined if we are to live up to our full potential in this lifetime.
This is not easy. It often feels safer to be superficial with others and to mask our true feelings in façade. If we are honest, most will share of little conscious connection with others outside our immediate family and closest friends and most believe that life on Earth and God are “out there”. Awareness in Divine presence is low and experience and expression of our Oneness with all things -- of our shared Divinity -- is even lower. This is precisely why Butterworth says great discipline is required. “There is always that of you that is greater than your littleness." If we are awake, if we know Who We Are, this is what Butterworth calls on us to do. This was true when Butterworth wrote the book over 40 years ago and today the message is even more relevant because now is the time for awakening if we are to bend the collective path and create a compassionate and sustainable world for our generation and the generation’s that follow.
The key is to embrace our spiritual unity with God, turn on our light and keep it on no matter what. “A light bulb is nothing more than this unless it is turned on and then it becomes a radiant source of light and warmth.” “But, when we walk into a room full of hostile people our tendency is to be hostile back.” We must resist this temptation says Butterworth. “We must resist the tendency to turn off our light." Why? Because this is how we maintain our connection, our love energy and our peace of mind. “It is important that you keep your love energy flowing, especially when you are challenged.” This was Jesus’ teaching says Butterworth. No matter what happens, we must turn on our light and keep it on. The power and the peace that goes with Divinity are ours only when we act the part. Our job is to be transformed by the moment to moment renewing of our mind. In mastery, there is no turning off.
When we feel challenged, perhaps there are things we can keep in mind that will serve us. “In the concept of the Divinity of man, there are no bad people. There are only good people expressing themselves incompletely. We must develop the insight that Jesus praised in Peter, so that we look beyond the flesh and blood appearance and see the Christ potential…to see them as whole, to salute the Divinity within them. The parable of the Prodigal Son sums up Jesus’ teaching.” Even after the expeditions of the son the father can see the wholeness in the son, the Divinity, the person who is perfect just as he is.
Butterworth says:
Your responsibility for [your] Self as well as Divine law is to keep your thoughts positive and loving in spite of injustice and disorder around you...Don’t procrastinate; whenever you begin to experience adverse feelings within yourself about someone, deal with those feelings immediately. Get your mind in a state of love and understanding and non-resistance. All contagion begins in the mind.
Awakening each morning we can say “I salute the Divinity in myself. I am strong and able. I can do all that I need to do this day. My mind is alert, my body vital and healthy and my way will be strewn with golden opportunities -- and I am blessed by them.”
Jesus’ only recorded speech , the Sermon on the Mount, can guide us. It focuses on eight Beatitudes. Butterworth calls the Beatitudes “BE Attitutdes”. Here are Butterworth’s interpretations of the BE Attitudes Jesus invites us to:
1) I am open and receptive to the inflow and the outpouring of all there is in God.
2) I am grateful for challenges that lead me beyond my extremity to God’s opportunity.
3) I am in tune with God—that which is God-inspired and God-directed shall prevail.
4) I seek with all my mind and heart, and I shall find.
5) I keep my thoughts centered upon only those things that I want to see manifest in my life.
6) I see the world not as it is, but as I am, and I am in spiritual unity with God.
7) I am a child of God and I act like one. I am a radiating center of peace and love.
8) In my quest for truth I press on past my humanity to deepening awareness and an increasing releasement of my potential divinity.
Amen and amen.
May we embrace our spiritual unity with God and be a radiating source of light and warmth to all people we come in contact with regardless of the circumstances we encounter. Our world calls out to us now -- it is time to create a New Earth. Let us live as Who We Really Are. May we each be transformed and may we transform our world into the glorious possibility we know it to be.
All my love,
Steve
